Understanding the Application Interface
\n
The application provides a search interface followed by reporting results.
\n
The main components are:
\n
Find activity
\n
Defines the historical data to retrieve using dates, item names or IDs, groups, columns, and users.
\n
Filter change history
\n
Applies additional filtering to the retrieved history using change types, event descriptions, and old or new values.
\n
Report results
\n
Displays the information in tables or charts, depending on the selected report.
\n
At the top of the application, the Search Mode, Report Type, and Save Search controls are available.
\n
Available report types
\n
\n
\n
\n
Report
\n
Purpose
\n
\n
\n
Item History
\n
Investigate historical changes and board activity
\n
\n
\n
Item Snapshot
\n
View item values at a selected historical point
\n
\n
\n
Item Snapshot Comparison
\n
Compare item values between two historical points
\n
\n
\n
\n
Select the required report using the Report Type dropdown.
\n

\n
4. Item History Report
\n
The Item History report provides a chronological record of board activity.
\n
It allows you to investigate questions such as:
\n
\n
\n
Who changed an item's status?
\n
\n
\n
When was a priority changed?
\n
\n
\n
What was the previous value of a column?
\n
\n
\n
Which items were modified by a particular user?
\n
\n
\n
What activity occurred during a specified period?
\n
\n
\n
Search Criteria and Filtering
\n
All fields in the Find activity section act as optional filters that determine which historical records are initially retrieved.
\n
If a field is left empty or no selection is made, no filtering is applied for that criterion. For example:
\n
\n
\n
If no dates are specified, all available historical dates are considered.
\n
\n
\n
If no groups are selected, activity from all groups is considered.
\n
\n
\n
If no columns or targets are selected, activity is not restricted to specific columns or targets.
\n
\n
\n
If no users are selected, activity performed by all users is considered.
\n
\n
\n
If no item name or ID criteria are provided, activity is not restricted to specific items.
\n
\n
\n
When multiple criteria are specified, they are combined to narrow the retrieved results.
\n
This initial filtering is separate from the Filter change history section, which applies additional filters to the records already retrieved.
\n
4.1 Selecting Item History
\n
\n
\n
Open the application.
\n
\n
\n
Locate the Report Type dropdown.
\n
\n
\n
Select Item History.
\n
\n
\n
The Find activity section provides the available search criteria.
\n

\n
4.2 Search Mode
\n
The Search Mode dropdown controls how search criteria are selected.
\n
Select Manual to enter search criteria directly.
\n
The interface also includes a Save Search button for retaining search configurations.
\n
4.3 Date From and Date To
\n
Use these controls to define the historical period you want to investigate.
\n
Each boundary includes a dropdown and a date input.
\n
\n
\n
Choose the desired option from the Date From dropdown.
\n
\n
\n
Enter or select the starting date when applicable.
\n
\n
\n
Choose the desired option from the Date To dropdown.
\n
\n
\n
Enter or select the ending date when applicable.
\n
\n
\n
These fields allow you to restrict the historical activity search to the period of interest.
\n
4.4 Item Name or ID Contains
\n
Enter text that must appear in the item name or ID.
\n
Examples:
\n
\n
\n

13483864461

\n
\n
\n

Release

\n
\n
\n

Sprint

\n
\n
\n
Use this field to narrow the search to particular items.
\n
4.5 Item Name or ID Does Not Contain
\n
Enter text to exclude items whose names or IDs contain the specified value.
\n
This is useful when you want to eliminate unrelated items from the search.
\n
4.6 Group
\n
The Group field allows you to select one or more groups from the current board.
\n
\n
\n
Click Search groups.
\n
\n
\n
Find the groups you want to include.
\n
\n
\n
Select one or more groups.
\n
\n
\n
Leave the field empty if no group restriction is needed.
\n
4.7 Column / Target
\n
Use Column / Target to select one or more columns or activity targets.
\n
\n
\n
Click Search columns or targets.
\n
\n
\n
Find the relevant columns or targets.
\n
\n
\n
Select the desired entries.
\n
\n
\n
Column selections are used when querying monday.com. corresponding values from the two selected historical points.
\n
Columns use the following naming convention:
\n
\n
\n
Column Name (From) — Value at the first historical point.
\n
\n
\n
Column Name (To) — Value at the second historical point.
\n
\n
\n
For example:
\n
\n
\n
\n
Priority (From)
\n
Priority (To)
\n
\n
\n
Medium
\n
High
\n
\n
\n
Low
\n
Low
\n
\n
\n
High
\n
High
\n
\n
\n
\n
This allows you to distinguish changed values from unchanged values.
\n
Special Cases
\n
\n
\n
Item did not exist: If an item did not exist at the selected snapshot date, all its column values for that historical point are displayed as N/A.
\n
\n
\n
Empty column value: If the item existed at the selected snapshot date but a particular column had no value, that column is displayed with an empty colored badge.
\n
\n
\n
This distinction allows you to identify whether an item did not yet exist or simply had no value assigned to a particular column.
\n
9.3 Identifying Changes
\n
The comparison report visually highlights certain differences between values.
\n
For example:
\n
Priority: Medium → High
\n
Product status: Not Started → Working on it
\n
Design status: Not Started → Stuck
\n
Unchanged values can also be displayed, allowing you to compare the complete item data rather than only modified fields.
\n
Display Type: Table
\n

<img loading=\"lazy\"
